G & R Hunts and Lodge was founded by Life-Long Hunting Friends

In many ways, as with countless enduring friendships and remarkable journeys, this story begins in the military. In 1996, Staff Sergeant Ken Gillmore of the 1st Battalion, 206th Field Artillery transferred from West Memphis to Russellville, Arkansas. A long‑time resident of Dyess, Ken uprooted his family to continue his service to the nation. During his first weeks in Russellville, he attended Second Baptist Church, where he met Scott Richardson, a fellow member of the newly relocated artillery unit.

The connection between the two formed quickly. By their second annual two‑week training, they had already developed a strong rapport, spending much of their time together and laying the foundation for a lasting friendship. Over the following years, Ken invited Scott to join Village Deer Camp in Smackover, Arkansas—where Ken had spent much of his adult life hunting. In that humble one‑room cabin, the two exchanged countless ideas and conversations about archery, rifles, big and small game, and their shared love of travel and adventure.

Their first major trip together—a well‑executed antelope hunt in Wyoming—proved both successful and memorable. Beyond the harvest, it further cemented the bond they had formed. In recent years, their shared passion has taken them abroad, including multiple safaris in South Africa, where both men are working toward completing the prestigious Spiral Horn Slam, and you can view these trophies at G & R Lodge.

Drawing on decades of combined hunting experience, strong personal relationships, and a genuine desire to help others achieve their own outdoor goals, Ken and Scott chose to invest in a hunting enterprise dedicated to consulting, lodging, and guided services.
